Poodle (Miniature) (long coat) : : Male : : Young : : Small
Sammy the miniature poodle came to us last October after being surrendered at his vet. His back leg
had been broken for 3 weeks, and was badly infected from urine scald. After recovering with cage rest, he broke a front paw hopping off a low sofa (which he had done many times before while playing with his doggy foster siblings). X-rays indicated it was actually a re-break...it healed on its own before he came to us, and rebroke when he hopped off that sofa. Poor Sammy!
So, after two breaks, one surgery and 6 months of recovery, he was finally ready to go home.
Sammy was adopted in April and, to make a long story short, he was returned to us due to aggression and not much indication of what changed his behavior. We've been working with a professional behaviorist to help Sammy be his best self again, but we need an adopter who will continue his training and be consistent with him.
- Super cuddly, loves giving kisses
- Loves car rides
- Great with cats and dogs under 15lbs. Good with gentle larger dogs with a slower introduction!
- Very playful and high energy
- Requires daily brushing and monthly professional grooming
- Goes into his playpen on command with no issues. He seeks out the playpen on his own when nervous or tired. He may growl or snap if physically forced into a crate or pen.
His ideal adopter:
- Is patient and has dog experience
- Will continue working with our trainer and dilligently follow her recommendations
- Has the skill or means to keep his coat groomed and free of knots. Expect monthly grooming costs to be over $70.
- Is able to keep up with his high energy
- Does not have rambunctious larger dogs.
